NorthLink Ferries operates the only vehicle ferry route; from Stromness to Scrabster.
Orkney Ferries offers a passenger only service to Graemsay on the island of Hoy.
Northlink Ferries Company
NorthLink Ferries has recently upgraded their ferry service. Ferries depart from Stromness for the port of Scrabster on the Scottish mainland two or three times daily. This journey takes approximately 90 minutes.
NorthLink Ferries fleet includes three new ships that all operate the current routes. These vessels can carry 600 passengers as well as freight and vehicles.
Ships facilities include a cinema that shows recent releases. Tickets for these showings can be purchased in advance or can also be purchased onboard during the voyage.
Ferry lounges are spacious and comfortable. Facilities also feature comfortable cabins and children's play areas. Dining options include an a la carte and self service restaurant where the menu features a variety of locally-grown produce. Passengers can enjoy a drink at one of the bars on board. During peak season, live entertainment is provided.
Orkney Ferries Company
Orkney Ferries operates short ferry routes from the mainland of Orkney Island to 13 other island destinations. These ferries are all equipped to handle passenger traffic only, and are not capable of carrying vehicles or large freight. From the port of Stromness, a route is available to Graemsay on the northern shore of Hoy. This route takes approximately 25 minutes and departs many times a day.
Ships include the Graemsay and the Hoy Head. Neither can carry more than 100 passengers at a time. Passengers with special needs are advised to call ahead of time to make special arrangements and for further inquiry.
